Это один из методов учета приобретенных фин.активов. В мсфо не применяется. Ранее был в fas 141 в US GAAP, но где-то с 2009 года его в рамках совместной работы IASB и FASB по конвергенции стандартов и в ГААП США тоже отменили.

А смысл типа показать раздельно валовую стоимость кредита и ожидаемое обесценение, включенные в цену покупки активов, чтоб пользователи видели раздельно эти допущения приобретателя.
Покупаете вы, например, портфель кредитов или вообще целый банк, у которого тоже кредиты есть. Как правило покупка портфеля происходит с дисконтом, в который уже зашиты ожидаемые убытки, поэтому вам и продают его дешевле номинала.
Условный пример, купили кредиты у другого банка за 900. номинальная стоимость 1000, т.е. дисконт порядка 100 ед. составил. При существующем подходе приобретения вы вешаете на баланс кредиты купленные по 900, это и будет вашей новой гросс (или брутто) стоимостью. т.е. Дт Кредиты Кт Деньги 900.
Подход гросс-ап говорит, что вы должны увеличить стоимость кредитов до номинала, т.е. до 1000, но тут же показать как бы приобретенное ожидаемое обесценение (allowance) при первоначальном признании в размере 100. При данном подходе обязательно раздельное раскрытие в балансе гросс-суммы кредита и этого контрсчета (allowance). Чтоб пользователь видел. Но в итоге Советы по стандартам посчитали такое представления информации не подобающим.
